Sources of Supply

Sanding Discs- For high speed sanding with Velcro–backed sanding discs I use discs from:

Industrial Abrasives

642 N. 8th Street

Box 14955

Reading, PA 19612

(I use their Rhynogrip Discs)

These are not the cheapest around but they last longer than any others I have tried, especially for high speed sanding. Now available as sheets (to cut your own discs) at a big discount.

Pneumatic Carving Tools- The reciprocating air tools are from:

          Trow & Holden

45 South Main Street

Barre, VT 05641

802-476-7221 or 1-800-451-4349

I use the “Barre Short Stroke Pneumatic Carving Tool: Type B” in both the 3/4” size & the Bantam size.

Surplus Vacuum Pumps-  this catalog usually has at least one vacuum pump suitable for

turning. I like a rotary vane vacuum pump with at least 4 CFM at 0 PSI.

          Surplus Center

          1015 West “O” Street

P.O. Box 82209

Lincoln, NE 68501-2209

Try eBay also.  I recently bought a new 10 cfm pump on eBay for about ˝ the current price.

Structured Carbide Sanding Drums and Carbide Burs

Wood Carvers Supply Inc., 1-800-284-6229.     Also good for carving tools.

Carving tools – for hand & power carving; good selection of burs, hand & power carving tools

          Mountain Heritage Crafters-

Foam for vacuum chucks etc.-  “Foamies” from Michael’s Art Supply stores.  Also found as “Playfoam” or “Fun Foam” – kids use it to cut out animal shapes etc.
